The Arts or The Sciences?

Not everyone is born with the gift or talent in art. I, for one have no talent for creating artworks. I do love writing, and that’s about it. I can’t create from colors or create pictures or any kind of graphics. Give me a picture, and tell me what you want, and that, I can work on. My daughter is very different. She has such a creative mind that you can just tell her what you want from a blank piece of paper and she almost automatically has an idea of what she would create on that blank paper. I am always amazed by her work!

Last weekend, we attended a Parent-daughter consultation for their upcoming entrance examinations for college before the end of the year. The speaker gave an inspirational talk to guide our daughters on how to choose the course they would be taking in college. The School’s guidance office also released the results of the tests that were conducted to determine what are the interests and the capabilities of the child that will help her to decide what course to take in college.
My daughter is still undecided on what she would take. However, her capabilities in the sciences were highly evident in the results. Second came her artistic talents. I strongly feel that she wants to pursue a career in the arts , but I think that she would be doing better on the science courses. I really can’t be sure at this point in time, so I guess I would just allow her to explore herself, and gradually discover what she really wants at the right time, and I pray that God will bestow upon her the wisdom to make the right decisions that will make her fulfill her dreams. I know in my heart He will take care of her.
…just a mother’s trend of thoughts…

naku hirap naman ng decision na yan kasi hirap mag-shift to another course kung in the long run eh ma-realize na di pala siya hiyang sa course na yon… basta ang mabuti eh try lang e-weigh ang courses na nasa list ng pagpapipili-an, look into the pros and cons at kung ano ang marketable/in demand these days para madali lang hanap ng work after graduation… hehehe… ay naku sorry Pau ha kung naki-alam me dito…just sharing my 2 cents.. *wink*

My goodness your daughter is talented! Isn’t it amazing that our children have gifts that seem to appear out of nowhere? I have one son who is very technical and mechanical (neither I nor my husband are that way) and another who’s a great athlete (again, he didn’t get it from us). Your daughter sounds very intelligent. I have no doubt she will pick the right path for herself.
