I just received this forwarded email from my batchmates from school about the Ark of Avilon (AoA) Zoo located at Frontera Verde near Tiendesitas in Pasig. I’ve never been to this zoo before, but this is quite alarming. As a concerned parent like he is, I do understand what the family of this person, Mr. Jerry Liao feels.

Well, my kids love going to zoos. But, I guess, after this incident, I don’t think I’ll ever entertain the idea of going to a zoo where they don’t have clinics or first aid kits in case anything or any of the animals that THEY ALLOW the people to touch cause injury to me or my children… would you?
..just my point of view…

Joenel: I felt exactly the same way. I guess it’s only natural for us parents to have second thoughts when incidents like these occur. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the info and the experience! My husband and I really want to visit AoA at Tiendesitas although weve been in Avilon Zoo in Montalban, were also been asked that we can touch some animals ’cause they won’t bite, so being excited and curious we touch those animals not being aware what could be our risk and most especially for the kids. Trully we appreciate you’re concern Thank You And God Bless!

Thats totally my pet snake in the picture.
Maybe people shouldn’t exploit animals at all….just a thought.
Is it the snakes fault it felt threatened enough to bite? Probably not.

that’s amazing…
I think you’re absolutely right! People shouldn’t exploit any animal at all! Thanks for the thought!

Come on? It was only a harmless kingsnake! The bites from them don’t even hurt, I keep snakes and a bite feels like little more then a pinch. All you need to do is rinse it out with water, although soap and water is better. Don’t tell me they didn’t have any restrooms to wash out a harmless snake bite? And as for all you other people who are no longer going to go to that zoo with their child, you are deigning your child a chance to learn all because of something that is about 1/10th as dangerous as a scraped knee. No offense but you are deffinetly over-reacting.

I’ll say, it was definately wrong for the zoo to not have the proper medical equipment. Animals ARE wild regardless of how domesticated. I mean your daughters cat would have done the same thing if it too was mishandled. And yes, mishandling a snake (that has been touched by every one and there grandmother; expecially if you’ve been ‘petting’ other furry snake food animals)(duh) is not hard to do. It’s not entirely her fault. So, just keep in mind, next time you take you or your kids to a petting zoo, pay attention! And try to be just as respectful to them as you would like some one poking at you in your cage to be to you. =)

People are very different from animals. Animals react according to their instinct. They bite when they feel threatened or irritated. People can sometimes act like animals but that doesnt mean we should be like one. What I want to point out is that people should take responsibility for their own actions and operating a facility must always observe safety procedures. Especially in a zoo, where not only the animals need to be taken care of but also the people who handles such creatures.

Avilon Zoo should have been asked to explain and publicly apologize otherwise they should close down the facility. You can sue them for damages. They should pay for their negligence. Well, in the meantime, parents should really be made aware of this to avoid Avilon Zoo. Before reading this, we were planning to bring my baby there to see the zoo. But this has definitely changed my mind.

I also had an experience like that pero hindi sa avilon zoo. It looks like a scam. pero you are not required to buy naman. the food is good naman pero hindi pang 5 star hotel and yung local accomodation is legit.ginamit ko yung accomodation for boracay 3 days 2 nights and maganda ang hotel nila doon. station one. you just need to make a 5000 deposit just to make sure na gagamitin nyo yung accomodation. it will be given back to you naman sa manila office. i am not connected to astoria. the presentation is like an hour and a half. sulit naman kasi may dinner for two and free accomodation.

they said “they won’t bite” and u believed them?? (edited) animals are animals however you tame them they will still retain some of their instincts especially reptiles. so in the end human error pa rin talaga ang cause ng mga ganyang aksidente. don’t blame the animal because it’s only doing what it was made to do. we try to bend them to serve our whims. kasalan p rin talaga ng tao yan. for the little girl i hope u learned ur lesson and be careful next time.. for AoA sana ayusin nyo facilities nyo.. If someone had a bad experience in a certain place, it doesn’t mean that the exact same thing will happen to another person. Same as good fortune, if one got a jackpot in the lottery, it won’t mean that people who will buy lottery tickets will also win the jackpot. In this incident, it’s an accident. Don’t make a fuss about it. The story has been repeated several times and I think the child who was involved in this accident isn’t a child anymore. This story is already history. Just be careful, we all have our worst experiences.

can anyone tell me why you allowed your daughter to touch the damn snake in the first place? i agree the management are complete assholes in responding to your pleas, but the entire thing was your fault. just because a gun isn’t loaded does not mean it’s less dangerous. same thing with snakes. snakes, for crying out loud. i wouldnt allow my child within ten feet of a garden-variety garter snake if my life depended on it. common sense goes a long way in avoiding accidents like these. To Nino_Cruz
Look, its a ZOO where they ALLOW visitors to touch the animals BECAUSE THEY DON’T BITE so they say. It’s the zoo’s fault they give the false impression that its SAFE to touch them.
And to the other people saying that its just a kingsnake, not everyone has the proper knowledge about snakes of course a regular person would freak out and make sure their child is 100% safe.
And for the zoo not to even have a decent clinic is preposterous.
Every Zoo small or big has liability that someone could get hurt, even if a child slips and falls and needs a band aid, there sould ALWAYS be a clinic.
Indeed common sense goes a long way.

My belief is that as a parent we need to be educated on everything our children do. If we are not then it is our fault as parents for allowing our children to do that activity. Not any one else, not the child, not the snake, and not the zoo. I personally don’t know anything about snakes, but I know a king snake is not poisonous. Can you even imagine a Zoo letting kids touch a poisonous snake? As a parent if you don’t know that a snake is poisonous or not, then you are an idiot for letting them touch something you are uneducated about. I hate to use that word, but parents need to be hyper aware when it comes to our children. As for the first aid, I have three little boys and over the years I just always carry first aid in my purse. The sad part is by over reacting to this, your daughter will now probably over react to things that come her way. If it was my little boy, I would have just said oops lets get a bandaid. That way they don’t see it as something scary. You are only a victim if you allow yourself to be. Personally getting up tight about things only will give you a heart attack. There are bigger things to worry about in life.

@ Steve: Hindi ka siguro parent kaya hindi mo nararamdaman ang distress pag nakagat ang anak mo ng isang ALBINO king snake, o kung parent ka man, wala kang kwentang magulang.. as cliche as it sounds, pero kung naging parent ka,”ni hndi mo nga pakakgat sa lamok un anak mo e! ” (**edited**), naginit ung ulo ko nung nabasa ko ung comment niya. We were planning pa nman to go to Avilion Zoo this weekend, nagbago an ung isip ko!!
