Who is blind

Is 42:18-20 "Hear, you deaf; look, you blind, and see! Who is blind but my servant, and deaf like the messenger I send? Who is blind like the one committed to me, blind like the servant of the LORD? You have seen many things, but have paid no attention; your ears are open, but you hear nothing."

Message
Isaiah 42
God talks about His Servant, the one He upholds. This Servant will not falter or be discouraged until he establishes justice on earth.  God has called this Servant to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open the eyes that are blind, free captives from prison ad to release from the dungeon those who sit in the darkness.

The settlements where Kedar lives and the people of Sela will sing for joy and shout from the mountaintops to give glory to the LORD and proclaim His praise in the islands.  The Lord will not forsake his people, but those who trust in idols and worship other gods will be turned back in utter shame.

Israel is described as a people who are blind, unable to see the glory of the Lord.  Therefore, the Lord caused his people to be plundered. Their disobedience resulted to their exile. All of these things came upon them because they chose not to obey God’s commandments.

Application

Every now and then we have the tendency to be deaf and blind.  We choose not to obey God’s commandments to us.  Being religious, studying hard, going to church regularly, or doing any good is not sufficient to break out of this deafness and spiritual blindness.  Father, it is only through Christ that I can be free from all my weaknesses. Lord Jesus Christ, keep me in Your path.  Through You alone, everything else opens up before me: my devotion, my learning, and true worship – all that safeguard me from being deaf and blind to all God’s will in my life.  In Jesus Name, I pray.

Message
Isaiah 38
Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death.  Isaiah relayed God’s message to Hezekiah that he was not going to recover from his illness, Hezekiah was going to die. Hezekiah prayed to the Lord, crying out about his faithfulness, devotion and all the good he had done in God’s eyes.  God heard Hezekiah’s prayer, and added fifteen years to his life, and promised to defend the city from Assyria.  God gave Hezekiah a sign by making the sun go back ten steps on the stairway of Ahaz.

Hezekiah wrote about his illness, his prayer to God for help, and how God saved him, brought him to recovery so that he could praise the Lord and tell everyone about God’s faithfulness and greatness.

Promise
•v4-5 -God hears and answers our prayers
•v6 -God will deliver and defend us from the enemy
•v7 -God gives sign of His faithfulness

Command
•v2 Pray
•v5 Never lose hope in God, remain faithful to God, He is listening to us
•v17 accept God’s plans for us
•v19 Praise and worship the Lord, spread His faithfulness to us

Warning
•In death we cannot praise the Lord
•In death we cannot spread to the living God’s faithfulness to us

Application
In Isaiah 38 Hezekiah was sick and dying. He wrote about his illness, his prayer to God for help, and how God saved him, brought him to recovery so that he could praise the Lord and tell everyone about God’s faithfulness and greatness.  Lord, thank You for constantly listening, hearing my prayers.  Thank You for Your faithfulness to us.  Make me relentless, my God, to always do Your will, and to praise You while I still have breath, spread Your goodness to all, while I  still have life, for in death, it is too late, nothing and no one can do anything after death.

Isaiah 38:18 For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness. 19 The living, the living–they praise you, as I am doing today; fathers tell their children about your faithfulness.

Message
Isaiah 33: Woe to the destroyer for they will be destroyed when they stop destroying.  Lord, be our strength every morning, our salvation in times of distress.  The Lord fills Zion with his justice and righteousness and will be the sure foundation.  Fear of the Lord is the key to the treasure of wisdom, and knowledge.  "I will arise," says the LORD. The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless.  The righteous will dwell on the heights, his refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him.   The arrogant will not be seen again, Zion and Jerusalem will be at peace.  There the Lord will be our Mighty One, our judge, our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; it is he who will save us.  No one living in Zion will say, "I am ill"; and the sins of those who dwell there will be forgiven.

Promise
•v5 The Lord will fill the people with justice and righteousness
•v6  The Lord is the foundation, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge.
•v15-17  If we walk righteously we will prosper and have no wants, and see the Lord
•v22 God will be the judge, and God will save us
•v24 God forgives

Command
•v2 Rely on the Lord
•v6  Fear of the Lord is the key to the treasure of salvation, wisdom and knowledge
•v13 "You who are far away, hear what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge my power!"

Warning
•v1 the destroyer will be destroyed, The evildoers will have their day.
•v11 "You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw; your breath is a fire that consumes you."
•v14 "The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: "Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?"

Application
Being with the Lord is a wonderful blessing, for the He protects us, and nothing can happen to us apart from God’s permission.  Father, thank You for Your protection.  By Your Word, we are able learn the ways of righteousness, to speak what is right and avoid the evil that lurk around us each day.  Enlighten me Lord, to know more about Your will, and be with me, for You are my refuge, You are our Provider.  With You constantly in my thoughts and in my heart, Father, I am safe, and have all I need.

Isaiah 33:15 He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil– 16 this is the man who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him.
